Niels <3 Christianne

My good cousin Niels and his beautiful bride Christianne wanted to have a small tranquil wedding…
Of course we couldn’t let this pass by quietly and my aunt organised a big surprise lunch for the whole family to celebrate this memorable day together with them.
See below the pictures of this lovely lunch.

Niels and Christianne: Congratulations and we wish you all the love in the world…

Axel & Phebe

Today I did a family photoshoot with Jody, Renske, Axel and Phebe.

For this shoot I had some compositions in mind, but those went straight out of the window once I started shooting these little bundles of energy.
Children are very hard to direct and I quickly realised  it’s better to just go with the flow. It turned out to be more of a reportage style of photoshoot, but I think it worked out pretty well.

I can see myself doing this more often.
It was a cool experience… I had a great time!

Thanks guys.

Monkey business

What better opportunity to getting used to my new Fujinon XF 23mm lens than being surrounded by a bunch of monkeys…?

The 23mm is a bit wider than my all-time-favourite 35mm lens, but I’m already seeing its advantages! Probably will be shooting a lot with this lens the upcoming days.
It does look like a familiar angle. But that is probably because it is the main focal length used in street photography, where I get a lot of my inspiration from. This was one of my main reasons for getting this lens.

Yes I know, the images have a little bit extremer post processing to them, than I’d normally would do.
I’m experimenting with some tone curve settings in Lightroom, looking for possibilities to put some personal flavour in my images. 😉

Dolphins

“Are we going to watch the dolphins now?”
“Just a few more nights and then we’re going to watch them. ”

“Are we going to watch the dolphins now?”
“First just play a little bit with your brother.”

“Are we going to watch the dolphins now?”
So exited… Can’t blame her. They’re such gracious, beautiful animals…

Wikl

So a few weeks ago a good friend of mine asked me to take some photos of his new product-line to publish on his website. This new product is called Wikl. It is a textile pot cover, which you can wrap around the plastic flower pot to make

it looks nice. It’s a very clever product and just the perfect little gift!

For the briefing: The images were supposed to display the products in a trendy living room. What better place than to use my own living room for this job (as my friend so liberally suggested). 😉

So we did… I was not sure about the setup at first, but once I checked the photos again to process a few days later, I was very pleased with the result.

Some of the images can be found in my portfolio (Wikl), and some more on his website http://www.wikl.nl.

Ps. I know I haven’t written in a while, but I’m back in the game… So you will be hearing more from me soon. 😉

Using the Fuji X-E1 for “official” jobs

I’ve been experimenting with the different settings on my Fuji X-E1 a lot lately, to get the JPEGs to suite my own taste. However I’ve come to realize Fuji already have done an excellent job with their default settings. It’s actually the look I fell in love with in the first place. I only prefer to have the Shadow Tones set to -1, to make the images a little bit softer. I also shoot mainly with DR100.

I am also feeling more confident every day with this camera to use it not only for shooting private, but use it for actual assignments. I think the AF still a bit slow, but for certain types of jobs where it doesn’t matter, I prefer it over a DSLR. The look of the images is exactly what I’m looking for so I get to use the JPEGs straight out of camera, which saves me a lot of time post-processing the images.

Fuji already announced a firmware update, which will speed up the Auto Focus, so things will get even better in the near future! Can’t wait. Maybe soon I won’t be shooting with a DSLR at all, anymore. 🙂
