I’ve been experimenting with the different settings on my Fuji X-E1 a lot lately, to get the JPEGs to suite my own taste. However I’ve come to realize Fuji already have done an excellent job with their default settings. It’s actually the look I fell in love with in the first place. I only prefer to have the Shadow Tones set to -1, to make the images a little bit softer. I also shoot mainly with DR100.
I am also feeling more confident every day with this camera to use it not only for shooting private, but use it for actual assignments. I think the AF still a bit slow, but for certain types of jobs where it doesn’t matter, I prefer it over a DSLR. The look of the images is exactly what I’m looking for so I get to use the JPEGs straight out of camera, which saves me a lot of time post-processing the images.
Fuji already announced a firmware update, which will speed up the Auto Focus, so things will get even better in the near future! Can’t wait. Maybe soon I won’t be shooting with a DSLR at all, anymore. 🙂
Great to see Fujifilm is still updating the performance of their current line of the X-Series, even though they already have announced the X100S.
… I just updated the firmware of the X-E1 and 35mm lens, and although I haven’t had the time to really test it extensively, but it indeed locks on very well now. In my experience it locks on also faster than before.
I did read on someones blog AF has become slower, but for me it feels the opposite. I think it feels that way, because it locks on more often. This update makes the camera really feel like an improved version!
It’s the first time I updated the firmware and I have to say, Fujifilm has explained the process very well on their website. Just read carefully through it (and watch the movie if it will make you feel more confident). Don’t be afraid to run the update. It is very simple and you will have a more accurate, and more enjoyable camera to use, than before…
Now, all we need is some nice light and a subject to test it on! 😉
Good luck, and happy shooting.
